Sam James from Singletracks came over for a visit recently. We showed him our shop and had a long chat about the adventure of getting to where we’re at, and about how the Supre Drive works and how we build our parts. After that, I went for a ride with Sam, each of us on a Nicolai Nucleon 16 Supre bike. Sam wrote the article linked above based on that visit.

Here are some excerpts where Sam speaks of his experience test riding the Supre Drive and the Nicolai Nucleon 16 Supre:

Having ridden the new high pivot Trek Slash earlier in the year, the Supre Drive feels more efficient right off the bat, a combination of the high anti-squat of the frame, and the low-drag drivetrain.

On the way down was where I really tuned into how quiet Supre Drive is. The bike is essentially silent, especially on high-speed chattery sections of trail, where the high-pivot suspension and Supre Drive work together seamlessly as a bump-eating machine, ripping noiselessly through the forest.

Consider me a convert. I’ve long been saying that the traditional derailleur drivetrain’s days are numbered and, in the absence of something better to suggest, maybe gearboxes are the future. Now I think the ‘something better’ might just be the Supre Drive.
